Still recovering from the January 6 Capitol riot and a brutal beating by insurrectionist Troy Hooper, former U.S. Capitol Police officer Matt McCord has returned to his native San Francisco Bay Area, where he works for a private security firm. His most recent assignment is to safeguard Cici Stone, a wealthy Asian American widow, who was brutally attacked during a hate crime the previous day. Upon arriving at her office, he finds the body of Mrs. Stone’s advisor, May Zheng—a discovery that plunges him into a world of corporate espionage, political intrigue, and long-buried secrets. While a romantic spark with his mysterious co-worker ignites his interest, McCord must confront a labyrinth of lies and deceit. The situation escalates into a deadly confrontation when a recently pardoned Hooper arrives in the city seeking revenge, turning San Francisco’s streets into a war zone as McCord races to unravel the truth and save his own life—and those of everyone around him.
