Fellowship Program

The 2027 Fellowship programs, Acquisitions/Editorial, Production/Administration, Marketing/Outreach are open to current Junior, Senior, and Graduate students with a set duration of January–December 2027. It is completely remote with flexible scheduling, with an expectation of 15–20 hours dedicated weekly for the duration of the Fellowship.

Fellowship descriptions are below.

Selected Fellows will be awarded a stipend of $1,000, to be distributed in even portions bi-monthly for the duration of the contract.

We have a hard cap at 30 applicants. Interviews will be conducted via Teams. Target start date is Monday, January 4.

Acquisitions/Editorial Fellowship

Throughout this Fellowship, anticipated duties are as follows:

  • Assist with the review of incoming submissions, requiring necessary editorial judgement and ability to assess the quality of a manuscript.
  • Present completed reviews to the Acquisitions Editor with a thorough understanding of your findings and why they should be accepted or rejected.
  • Update review statuses across SharePoint and Excel trackers and forms.
  • Attend production meetings via Teams and contribute to short presentations on the status of reviews and tasks within the department.
  • Take on the first edit of assigned manuscripts, editing for pacing, style, grammar, punctuation, etc. using the Chicago Manual of Style and Word Track Changes. Access to the online edition and the full roster of Microsoft applications will be provided.
  • Contact authors directly about revisions and suggestions made during the first edit.
  • Update edit statuses across Microsoft Planner and maintain version control in SharePoint.

This is not an exhaustive list; additional tasks and learning opportunities may appear throughout the duration of the Fellowship across Amphorae’s departments.

Required competencies are as follows:

  • Minimum 3 months of experience in literary publishing through an internship, student organizations, or work experience, or a BA in publishing, creative writing, or a related field.
  • Those who have only completed courses in publishing, creative workshop, and/or literary analysis may also be considered; include these on your resume with the dates of course completion and 2–3 bulleted sentences on relevant content learned and/or projects.
  • Microsoft Office 365, including Word Track Changes. Training will be provided as needed on the usage of SharePoint, Planner, and Excel trackers.
  • Editorial judgement. Applicants must have at least an intermediate understanding of craft, copyediting in Chicago, and how to differentiate good stories from great ones.
  • Communication skills. The Fellowship is management- and client-facing, so ability to communicate effectively in writing and voice is necessary.
  • Organization. Version control, timely completion of assignments, and maintenance of files, forms, and trackers are the keys to success.

Production / Administration Fellowship

Throughout the Fellowship, anticipated duties are as follows:

  • Undergo initial training in communicating with contractors and vendors.
  • Communicate with printers like TurnKey and Versa to find the best price quotes for titles, balancing costs for printing, shipping, and warehousing.
  • Manage tasks for ARC production, including maintenance of alignment with contracted designers, proofreading ARCs and final files, and updating management on progress/changes needed.
  • Attend production meetings via Teams and contribute to short presentations on the status of tasks within the department.
  • Create and submit ISBN forms for new titles across print and eBooks.
  • Submit nominations of titles to awards with direction from management.
  • Update task statuses across Microsoft Planner and maintain version control in SharePoint.

  • Minimum 3 months of experience in literary publishing, communications, or administration through an internship, student organizations, or work experience, or a BA in publishing, communications, business, or a related field. Those who have only completed courses in communications, business administration, or publishing may also be considered; include these on your resume with the dates of course completion and 2–3 bulleted sentences on relevant content learned and/or projects.
  • Microsoft Office 365, including Word Track Changes. Training will be provided as needed on the usage of SharePoint, Planner, and Excel trackers.
  • Attention to detail. Forms, files, and numbers need to be proofread, submitted, and maintained with explicit accuracy.
  • Communication skills. The Fellowship is management- and vendor-facing, so ability to communicate effectively in writing and voice is necessary.
  • Organization. Version control, timely completion of assignments, and maintenance of files, forms, and trackers are the keys to success.

Marketing / Outreach Fellowship

Throughout the Fellowship, anticipated duties are as follows:

  • Research relevant trends and analyze our backlist and frontlist with applicable sales data.
  • Brainstorm and execute social media and email campaigns in collaboration with other members of our Marketing department from beginning to end.
  • Write copy, create designs in Canva, and use our SocialPilot account for scheduling across LinkedIn, TikTok, and Instagram.
  • Also write for, design, and schedule e-newsletters and ads for our Mailchimp audiences.
  • Run the numbers on engagement with existing tracking systems, updating the team on what is and isn’t working and authoring reports to present during meetings.
  • Update campaign statuses across Microsoft Planner and maintain version control in SharePoint.
  • Get ahead of schedule with existing plans and new ideas to better establish our engagement with the online community.

Required competencies are as follows:

  • Minimum 3 months of experience in literary publishing or marketing/communications through an internship, student organizations, or work experience, or a BA in publishing, communications, marketing, or a related field. Those who have only completed courses in digital marketing, marketing communications, or marketing design may also be considered; include these on your resume with the dates of course completion and 2–3 bulleted sentences on relevant content learned and/or projects.
  • Microsoft Office 365. Training will be provided as needed on the usage of SharePoint and Planner as well as SocialPilot and Mailchimp.
  • Canva design. Must have some proficiency in creating both static and video content
    without reliance on templates or generative AI.
    Copywriting and research.
  • Must be able to understand and write to our audiences, using applicable research and provided resources to continue and better our brand.
    Communication skills.
  • The Fellowship is management- and audience-facing, so ability to communicate effectively in writing and voice is necessary.
